Silk

Silk Handbook

This handbook explains how to use Silk.
If you have your own Silk site, use the account menu in the top bar to go back to your site.

What is Silk?

Silk is a new way to create and consume content.
You can search smarter and visualize data easily.
Turn your text into tables, graphs and maps.

Is Silk a search engine?

No, Silk is a new kind of website that's more powerful and easier to use.
If you have data that you want to load into Silk, you can create a Silk site yourself.

Could you give an example?

Sure! The World database contains one document for every country in the world.
Many facts in these documents have been tagged (marked), so Silk now knows that Paris is the capital of France.

You can use Silk's knowledge to make overviews. It takes only a few clicks to generate a map showing the smallest countries in the world, together with a picture of their leader. You can find that overview here, in fact.

What browsers can I use?

We recommend using Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
If you're using Internet Explorer, you'll need to install Google Chrome Frame.
We're working towards supporting Internet Explorer 9.

How do I create my own Silk site?

For now, you can only view existing sites. You'll be able to create your own site soon!
If you have an account, you'll hear from us when you can create your own site.
Please let us know if you want early access.
